Cider

Cider is a low alcoholic beverage made from apple juice by alcoholic fermentation. It has specific characteristics as defined earlier. Cider is an alternative term used for cyder, though both terms have been used at least since 1631, including in Australia. However, in some places, cyder and cider are differentiated: cider is an alcoholic beverage, whereas cyder is usually apple juice or a nonalcoholic beverage (apple juice). The fermented juice is called cider in England but is known as hard cider in the United States. In Europe, fermented apple juice is known as cider (France), sidre (Italy), sidra (Spain), or applewein (Germany and Switzerland) where the name for the corresponding unfermented product is clearly distinguished as apple juice .
